Gopalkrishna Gandhi (the closet "undemocrat") on Sanskrit

http://thewire.in/2015/06/30/sanskrit-needs-new-study-fresh-analysis-and-students-not-a-joint-secretary-in-the-mea/    One is at an utter loss in trying to comprehend the monumental ignorance of those who pass for writers these days. 1. Sikha pantha minus Punjabi is nothing because the guru grantha sahib, the dasham grantha, etc. have been written / composed in punjabi. Anyone wishing to know about them "correctly", has to have a knowledge of Punjabi. Hence, Punjabi is indeed the language of Sikhism and this cannot be escaped. Same goes for Islam. The authentic interpretations of Islam come from commentators who know the tradition of Islam and Arabic. 2. None of the Vedanta books the author has quoted are non-sanskrit. 3. If it was the decision of the constituent assembly to have "India that is Bharat" then, what prevents any democratic government from overturning this and making it "Bharat that is India" by way of a constitutional amendme...

Shameless offstumped (Niticentral) behaving as the hitmen of Nestle

http://www.niticentral.com/ 2015/06/03/maggi-noodles-ban- imperils-livelihood-of-lakhs- 316363.html 1. The article is full of logical fallacies. The cleverest way to counter sound argument is to introduce material which is not core to it. This is what the mandarins of Offstumped seem to be learning. Sorry to convey to them the news that they have failed miserably. The whole article is filled with material which is not related in any way to the question at hand. The question at hand is whether maggi which contains mono sodium glutamate (MSG) and lead is harmful  to people or not (and hence deserving a ban or not). 2. The standard method of making rats diabetic in lab experiments is to feed them MSG. This is what the half literate Offstumped writers should get into their thick skulls. 3. If lead were safe, why would we have unleaded petrol as a standard across the world? Still, offstumped will have us believe " Why go after trace quantities of lead in noodles w...

bhArAvatArastavaH harihara-bheda-bhAra-avatAriNii-Tiikopetam - shloka 2

The bhArAvatAra stavaH is a recent work of Shri Shankar R, a modern poet of Sanskrit. The work composes of 50 shlokas in praise of Shiva. The hari-hara-bheda-bhAra-avatAriNii Tiika is a Tiika on the above work by Shri Shrivathsa. B., a person who is passionate about samskR^itam especially the Tiika tradition. An effort has been made to view the stotra (hymn in praise) of shiva as a stotra of viShNu. The name of the Tiika literally means: the Tiika which removes a burden. The burden is the bheda buddhi (attitude of seeing as different) shiva and viShNu. bhArAvatArastavaH harihara-bheda-bhAr-AvatAriNii-Tiikopetam - shloka 2 by Shrivathsa

Sheldon Pollock's Scare mongering about "Crisis in the Classics"

Sheldon Pollock has written a scare mongering piece here: http://www.museindia.com/focuscontent.asp?issid=43&id=3330 The following is a humble attempt to rebut the article: "“India is confronting a calamitous endangerment of its classic knowledge, and India today may have reached the point the rest of the world will reach tomorrow. This form of knowledge, under the sign of a critical classicism, must be recovered and strengthened not for the mere satisfaction of those outside of India who cultivate the study of its past but for the good of the people of India themselves.”    The article starts with Sheldon Pollock (SP) saying that what he says in the article is not backed by statistics but out of personal experience and anecdotes.    The above said, let us analyze the alarm! 1. "Calamitous endangerment of its classic knowledge." : According to SP, classic knowledge is knowledge "about" classics and not knowledge of the classics. Knowl...

Sampadaka's tirade against Baba Ramdev

Mr. Sampadaka at it again. He is a beacon of negativity in an otherwise positive kannaDa blogosphere. Our exercise of writing periodic rebuttals to him will continue until he realizes his follies and becomes positive. In his latest tirade against Baba Ramdev: http://sampadakeeya.blogspot.com/2011/06/blog-post_7885.html He does what he has become known for: unabashed negativity with insinuations, sanctimonious pontification etc. thrown in in good measure. Let us try to understand the (mis)articulations of a sick mind. Wow!!! insinuation right at the beginning. Right at the second paragraph gives an impression as though the person whom he is going to talk about (Baba Ramdev) is a corrupt person who has just joi...

Sampadakeeya's tirade against a Social Worker

http://sampadakeeya.blogspot.com/2011/04/blog-post_5493.html Poor Sampadaka, his attacks seem to be directed against Hindu Icons alone. I request him to write about the recent canonization of Sister Alphonsa by the Vatican attributing to her "miracles". The article shows his utter ignorance of samskR^itam. Take for instance: "ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ಪದ. ಅಧಿ+ಆತ್ಮ ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಧಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠವಾದ, ಉನ್ನತವಾದ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥಗಳಿವೆ." according to Mr. Sampadaka adhi + Atma = shreShTha AtmA. Actually the pada is adhyAtma (not adhyAtmA, the last "a" is a hrasva). adhyAtma is that stream of knowledge which deals with oneself, not the knowledge of "great souls" as the ignorant author of Sampadakeeya claims. This being Mr. Sampadaka's knowledge level, one can rest one's case. But has to continue because there are many more bogus claims and sickening personal attacks which shouldn't go uncontested for truth's sake. "ಆತ್ಮ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠವ...
